In the Aftermath of a Fire - "Do's" and "Don'ts" in Vermont

In the Aftermath

After a fire occurs, you should quickly react and take steps to restoring your Rutland County, Vermont Home.  The reason being, fire damage commonly results in broken windows and exposed walls to the outside elements and can cause further damage if not addressed.  Home Owners usually try to save themselves some money here, but if not educated on this specialty situation they can actually cause permanent damage.  We recommend your first step is to call SERVPRO of Bennington & Rutland Counties at (802) 375-1500.

Steps We Take

There are multiple steps we take to restoring your home.  We start with removing the source of the odor, follow up with cleaning what is left, and last deodorizing.  During the first stage we remove anything that can give off that smell of fire which can include the structure and contents.  After we have removed all of this we move to a cleaning process.  In our cleaning process we remove the soot with a special rubber sponge.  Any other item will rub the soot in and permanently stain the contents.  The last major step we take in the remediation process is deodorizing.  We use a special "Fog" machine that kills the particles that leave that nasty fire smell behind.
