Make a Food Plan for the Next Storm Outage!

9/16/2021 (Permalink)

Snowstorms, ice storms, thunderstorms if severe enough all can knock out your power quickly. And we here in the Bennington and Rutland areas know a few things about storms! Sometimes power outages can last days or even weeks depending on how quickly the electric company is able to service your area. Having a stockpile can ease you and your families’ minds during such an event.

One suggestion we have is to always keep the staples on hand. Do not be one of those pre-storm shoppers that runs to the grocery store and empties out all the bread and milk in the aisle! If you set aside the staples you need throughout the year you can avoid all the pre storm grocery store mayhem!

Some essentials to have in your stockpile:

  • Bottled water
  • Protein bars
  • Breakfast cereal
  • Plant based milk
  • Shelf stable milk
  • Nuts
  • Peanut butter
  • Almond butter
  • Canned beans
  • Canned fish
  • Canned meat
  • Canned veggies
  • Canned fruit
  • Rice

It is important to keep your refrigerator closed as much as possible. If you keep your refrigerator closed it usually can stay at a safe temperature of below 40 degrees Fahrenheit for roughly 4 hours. Freezers will stay cold for 24-48 hours as well if kept closed.

These are just a few tips on making a food plan for the next storm! The team at SERVPRO of Bennington & Rutland Counties has specialized training and experience in storm damage restoration, water restoration, fire damage restoration, mold remediation, commercial services, and natural disaster cleanup.
